This is a collection of images from 3 weeks in japan in April 2024. We started in Tokyo and then travelled west to Takayama for the festival via Matsumoto, known for its castle and as the birthplace of artist Yayoi Kusama. After the Takayama Festival we spent three days in Kyoto. We then visited Hiroshima and Miyajima and Naoshima Islands just south of Hiroshima. These were all tourist hotspots, and we were keen to get a bit off the beaten track so we first travelled to the Eko-In Monastery in Koyasan in the mountains south of Osaka and then walked on the Kumano Kodo pilgrim trail for 6 days from Tanabe to Shingu on the Kii peninsula. Please see the specific pages for more pictures of Takayama, Fushimi Inari, Kyosan and the Kumano Kodo.
